Counsel.day is a private decision tool for solo voters, couples, and families facing a question that a single conversation cannot settle. Every evening, each voter casts one sealed vote on the same question, across a duration set at the start; mid-decision, no one can see anyone else's votes. On the verdict day the answers publish side by side with a five-layer analysis: agreement rate, conviction trajectory, themes from each voter's notes, the synthesis of what the disagreement was actually about, and one specific question to open the conversation that follows. Counsel.day is worldwide, priced in USD, and built by James Graham in Christchurch, New Zealand.

ONE-PAGE DESCRIPTION

Counsel.day in one page.

The product is built on a single observation: hard joint decisions are rarely failures of information, they are failures of timing. The dinner table is the wrong environment for them, because the dinner table is built for togetherness, and togetherness is exactly what these decisions cannot afford on the first pass. A single sitting captures one mood on one day; the question deserves a season.

Counsel.day separates the voting from the conversation. For a duration the couple sets at the start (a fortnight, a month, sixty days, ninety days, up to a full year on the Couple and Family plans), each partner casts one private vote every evening, with a short note in their own words. Neither partner sees the other's votes mid-period. The architecture is sealed by design: the database enforces a sealed read path, with no admin override and no support escape hatch.

On the final evening, both verdicts publish on the same page at the same instant. Underneath them is a five-layer analysis: agreement rate across the period, conviction trajectory for each partner, themes extracted from the notes each of them wrote, a synthesis paragraph that names the underlying axis of disagreement, and one concrete question to open the conversation that follows. The product does not tell you what to decide; it tells you what you were deciding about.

Counsel.day is not a therapeutic intervention, not a counselling product, and not a substitute for couples therapy. It is a data tool that arrives before the conversation. The founder, James Graham, is a data professional, not a clinician; the methodology is informed by published research on decision-making and on dyadic disagreement, but no clinician has validated, built, tested, or endorsed the product. The pricing is in USD worldwide; the company is registered in New Zealand.

QUOTES AVAILABLE FOR USE

On-record quotes from James Graham.

The following quotes are available for journalist use without further approval. Please attribute to James Graham, founder, Counsel.day.

  • "The decision is rarely the problem. The setting is. The dinner table is the wrong environment for the question that has been circling for weeks, because the dinner table is built for togetherness, and togetherness is exactly what that question cannot afford on the first pass." James Graham, founder · Counsel.day
  • "A season of private voting captures something a single conversation cannot: the trajectory of each partner's conviction, the themes that surface in their own words after work on a Wednesday, and the axis of disagreement underneath the surface question. That is what we publish on the verdict day; the conversation still has to happen, but it begins with the data underneath it laid out plainly." James Graham, founder · Counsel.day
  • "We are not therapists. Counsel.day is a data tool that arrives before the conversation, not a replacement for the conversation, and certainly not a substitute for the trained professionals who do the work of guiding it." James Graham, founder · Counsel.day
